When travelling to another country, there is a choice of staying in a serviced apartment or a hotel. This time around when I visited Kochi, I decided to try both options and chose to stay in a serviced apartment first. A serviced apartment comes with all the services and facilities you need for short or long term stay, much like living at home and almost similar to hotel, but with more privacy and space.
When Chef Ramu Butler invited me to stay at Kent Baywatch Suites, he told me it is a brand-new serviced apartment with a restaurant and bar attached. Accepting his offer,
I arrived in Cochin airport at about 1.30 am and got into a taxi to go to Edakochi. Edakochi is in South Kochi located on the southern banks of the Kochi backwaters. The famous Kumbalangi village is not far from here and the one of the older churches in Kochi – St. Lawrence Church is also here.
The serviced apartment is about 29 km from the Cochin International Airport. Kent Baywatch Suites is 11 km from Kochi Biennale and 23 km from Aster Medcity. When I reached Edakochi, the taxi driver enquired several people the exact location of the apartment building. Being a brand-new building not many people in the vicinity know about its existence more so at night when the roads are dimly lit.
But when I finally found it, I was wondering why the residents were not aware of a majestic, brightly lit building like the Kent Baywatch Suites! At the reception, I was ushered into a one-bedroom apartment. It was 3.20 a.m. then. It was pitch dark outside bedroom window. The apartment was spacious and elegantly furnished with contemporary wooden furniture and a practical kitchenette. Basic amenities like a washing machine, microwave oven, starter kit type set of crockery, coffee and tea making facilities, a plush bed and clean brand-new bathroom and a large screen flat-screen TV with satellite channels were made available. The bedroom had a small work station too and the whole building has high speed wifi connection. It is just the kind of place to stay in for work, rest and relaxation! The apartment comes complete with an outdoor infinity swimming pool, children’s wading pool, fully equipped gymnasium, children’s playground, a garden, a terrace and a restaurant B at the Bay and a pub Wild Boar. The apartment has two-bedroomed units as well, ideal for bigger families.
In the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my bedroom faces the Kerala backwaters with panoramic view. The sunrise and sunset scenes were awesome indeed.
The staff at Kent Baywatch Suites were very attentive and friendly and attended to my needs instantly. Transport can be arranged easily for daily tours.
Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at B at Bay Restaurant owned by Chef Ramu Butler. B at Bay is a beautiful contemporary restaurant. One can see that all details have been put in place with lots of passion and experience in creating the restaurant’s crisp, modern concept – the ambience, the edgy lighting, the cutlery, the menu and the training of the restaurant chef. I am sure this 50-seater restaurant will not be enough when the serviced apartments fill up soon. Even when I was there, I could see almost half the restaurant full every evening and most people came there by word of mouth. The menu features a selection of popular dishes from across the globe. And of course, Kerala food is a big shout in this restaurant. Guests are treated to a set menu for breakfast which includes continental and Indian breakfast items.
