The Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmindar Sahib is one of the most spiritual place in India. This is also the holiest shrine in Sikhism. It is in Amritsar, Punjab. The Golden Temple is a small part of a huge complex known as the Harmandir Sahib.

The main spiritual focus is Amrit Sarovar, a tank that surrounds the Golden Temple. The water in the tank is believed to have healing powers and many swear that drinking this water can cure diseases. The Golden Temple is visited by thousands of people from all over the world to seek religious fulfilment.   Before you enter the temple, you will have to cover your head with a scarf and wash your feet at one of the dedicated areas. There are cloakrooms for you to keep your footwear safely.

The Golden Temple is a sight of beauty and an attraction one should not miss. The entire atmosphere is one of peace. Anyone who visits this temple is welcome to the kitchen to help out and have a meal. The huge kitchen and dining halls are open throughout the day. You will have to sit on the floor to have your meal. The meal is usually rice, chapatis, vegetables and a dessert – full vegetarian meal. The food at this temple is cooked by devotees. The dishes and utensils are washed by volunteers and anyone can volunteer to do this service.
