The Kallumalai Arulmigu Subramaniyar Temple also commonly known as Kallumalai Murugan Temple was originally built in 1889 inside a cave in Gunung Cheroh. It seems a stone fell on a priest and he was killed, and the temple had to be closed. The current temple was built in 1930. The tower (gopuram) in this temple is the tallest in Perak – about 70 feet. The temple is busiest during auspicious days. The biggest event that draws tourists from all over the world to this temple is Thaipusam. Apart from the surreal experience of attending prayers, I like this temple because of backdrop of glorious limestone hills! Kids will like this temple as they get to see lots of peacocks in a huge cage at the far-right corner of the temple.
