We were picked up from the airport by the hotel’s car and we went straight to the Om Niwas Hotel, Jaipur. Om Niwas is situated about 4 km from the Pink City of Jaipur and is in a residential colony. Occasionally, I like to stay in hotels like this – away from the maddening crowd, peaceful and relaxing. It was past midnight and the only gentleman who was at the reception desk was so pleasant. He knew we were tired and skipped some of the formalities and told us that we should rest first.
We checked into a suite that had a kitchenette equipped with the essentials including a microwave oven, refrigerator and stove – this is perfect for those who are in Jaipur for business or are there with small children.
The beds were big and comfortable and had clean sheets. One of the bedroom had a narrow balcony that looked out to a well-manicured lawn. The bathroom was clean and had modern fixtures. What is interesting about this bathroom is that it had a fan on each time I entered!
The hotel had multi-cuisine restaurant that served predominantly Rajasthani cuisine and a bit of South Indian dishes. The hotel owners also have their own bakery – Om Niwas Bakery Line. The bakery produces a range of healthy cakes, breads and other snacks.
Ms. Pooja Basal, one of the directors of the hotel said they also have their own range of jams – the fruits used in the jam making are all from their own orchards!!
The owners own several other properties and one of it is Arya Niwas Hotel that houses the popular Chitra Cafeteria. This cafeteria offers excellent vegetarian food. I saw many businessmen, tourists and others eating there when I went for lunch. Obviously, the restaurant is very popular. Chitra, the lady owner, who also planned the menu, told me that the dishes are more home-style and very nutritious.
