Benefits of Drinking Lemon Juice

My mother is a great fan of lemon and warm water drink in the morning. I am not a fan of a sour drink in the morning and so after a quick research I found out that lemon, warm water and honey is something one should drink first thing in the morning. Your energy level gets boosted and the scent of lemon can uplift your mood! There are many other reasons why you should drink lemon water or lemon, honey and water in the morning.

Reasons why you should drink lemon juice.

Boosts your immune system

Lemons are high in Vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C is great for fighting colds, and potassium stimulates brain and nerve function and helps control blood pressure.

Balances pH 

Lemons are high in alkaline even though it is known for being fairly acidic. When the lemon water hits the inside of your body, it turns alkaline (the citric acid does not create acidity in the body once metabolized). A balanced pH system aids with general health.

Helps with weight loss 

Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. Research has shown that people who maintain an alkaline diet lose weight faster.

Aids digestion 

Warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and peristalsis—the waves of muscle contractions within the intestinal walls that keep things moving. Lemons and limes, high in minerals and vitamins, help to loosen toxins in the digestive tract and therefore keeps constipation at bay.

Antiseptic Properties 

Lemons are antiseptic and have a powerful cleansing effect on your liver, kidneys and blood. An overworked liver in particular has an influence on how good you feel. Cleansing it each morning can make a big difference to your daily energy over time. In addition, lemon water helps to decrease wrinkles and blemishes on the skin as it purges toxins from the blood and keeping the skin clear as well.

Cleanses the lymphatic system 

Dehydrated lymphatic system can lead to fatigue, sluggishness, disturbed sleep, low blood pressure constipation and illness. Drinking lemon water in the morning hydrates the entire lymphatic system.

Improves oral health 

The good properties and the acidic nature of lemon can help get rid of bad breath almost immediately. The lemon can clean your mouth by activating the salivary glands and killing the bacteria. Lemon and water helps to “wash” away bacteria that would have formed overnight in your mouth, throat and the digestive tract.

Makes the skin glow

I like this reason very much!! Lemon and water helps to purify the blood and in the production of new blood cells and thus make the skin glow with health!

When to Drink Lemon Water?

Ideally, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Eat your breakfast at least one hour after the drink.

How Much?

The juice of half a lemon or lime mixed with 1 cup (250 ml) of lukewarm water. If you want, 1 teaspoon of honey can be mixed in. I like a pinch of salt in this drink.
