Ayam Percik (Malay-Style Roasted Chicken)

Ayam Percik literally means “splashed” chicken in Malay language. Well, the “splash” in this case is referring to basting of the marinade. This Malay dish originated from Kelantan, a state in Malaysia. I have cut down the coconut cream from the traditional recipe. I am only using fresh ingredients and you need a blender or a mortar and pestle – short cuts to this recipe may produce edible chicken but not as tasty as it should be. You must marinate the chicken pieces for at least a minimum of 6 hours before roasting.
