Oats, Almond Milk and Fruits

Oats are naturally gluten-free. They don’t contain gluten in their natural form. Oats help restore and calm the nervous system, lower cholesterol and regulate weight and is the ideal ingredients for breakfast. Eating oats porridge in the morning can be really boring and so “dressing up” the porridge will not only make it interesting and palatable but also add other nutrients to your breakfast.  Perhaps you should try having your oats with coconut milk!  However, if you are using coconut milk, refrain from using citrus or sour fruits as these may curdle the coconut milk.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 25 minutes

Serves: 1

150 ml water

150 ml almond milk, milk or rice milk

50 g steel cut oats

pinch of salt

150 g mixed fresh fruits (grapes, bananas, blueberries etc)

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

METHOD

  1. Pour water and almond milk into a small saucepan.
  2. Add the steel cut oats and salt in and cook over low heat for about 20 minutes or until the oats are cooked.
  3. Pour into a serving bowl. Top with fruits and ground cinnamon and serve hot preferably for breakfast.
